WORLD POKER TOUR Returns to Atlantic City for 2007 Borgata Winter Open

Building on the recent success of the 2006 Borgata Poker Open — the biggest poker tournament in Atlantic City’s history — and the debut of its new, 85-table room — the largest poker room in Atlantic City — Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa announced it will kick off the New Year with the second annual Borgata Winter Open. The 14-day tournament will begin January 17, 2007, and will conclude with the Borgata Poker Classic, part of the WORLD POKER TOUR(R) (WPT), on January 26-30, 2007.

The Borgata Winter Poker Open will mark the WORLD POKER TOUR’s sixth visit to Borgata. The most recent Borgata Poker Open in September drew a record 540 players with a prize pool over $5,000,000. A virtual who’s who of poker stars, the tournament drew such competitors as Michael “The Grinder” Mizrahi, Shannon Shorr, Daniel Negreanu (2004 WPT Player of the Year and winner of the 2004 Borgata Poker Open), Phil “the Unabomber” Laak, Academy-Award nominee Jennifer Tilly, David Williams, Antonio Esfandiari, actress Shannon Elizabeth, David “the Dragon” Pham and Maciek “Michael” Gracz, all vying for the WPT title. However, it was an up and coming amateur from North Carolina named Mark Newhouse, who captured the WPT title and the first-place prize of $1,519,020.

Last year also marked the debut of Borgata’s revamped 21,500 square-foot poker room, home to three anchor events: Borgata Winter Open/WPT Poker Classic, Borgata Summer Open and the WPT/Borgata Poker Open. The Borgata Poker Room now features an eighteen-table High Limit Room offering food service; a nine-table tournament area offering bleacher seating for tournament viewing that may be partitioned off as a “reserved” poker area; and a 58-table Main Poker Room offering live poker action. The room is outfitted with over seventy plasma televisions and offers the largest variety of games and limits in Atlantic City. Highlights from 2006 include the first ever Borgata Summer Open, which drew nearly four-thousand entrants and cash prizes totaling $2,517,030; the fourth annual Borgata Poker Open, which drew nearly ten- thousand entrants with cash prizes totaling over $10 million; and $50,000 Guaranteed Friday tournaments, a favorite among amateurs and professionals alike.

“At Borgata, we strive to offer our poker players a full destination experience with A-list entertainment, exciting nightlife options, stellar dining, upscale accommodations, a robust poker program and above all, great service,” said Larry Mullin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Borgata. “Borgata is excited to partner with the WORLD POKER TOUR once again to bring a world-class tournament to Atlantic City and offer our players a unique experience while they are here.”

Televised nationally on the Travel Channel and one of the premier stops on WORLD POKER TOUR’s 17-tournament tour, the Borgata Poker Classic will feature the world’s top poker players along with local fan favorites competing in No- Limit Texas Hold’em poker. The buy-in amount is $10,000.

Online reservations are available for Main Events by visiting http://www.theborgata.com. On-site registration for all events begins Friday, January 12, 2007, and will be available until January 29 at 2PM.

Special hotel room rates are available to tournament players Sunday through Thursday at $100, Friday at $179 and Saturday at $199

PokerOcean.com Opens Skin of TitanPoker

(PRWEB) June 13, 2006 — PokerOcean was launched this month in full force by the owners of TitanPoker and previous owners of NoblePoker. PokerOcean is expected to be the next big wave in online poker. (www.pokersocean.com)

The software will have similar quality to that of Titan Poker because it is considered a skin of TitanPoker. TitanPoker hit the market last year and became an instant success. PokerOcean will continue the trend of offering Sit and Go poker jackpots when players win multiple tournaments in a row. With the launch of the software PokerOcean will start things off with a $200 bonus but will not offer an instant $10 free to users like TitanPoker did during their launch.

PokerOcean looks to have the same theme as rival ParadisePoker with the ocean background and layout. In the lobby a full screen of a tropical lagoon and rainforest background is present. The software now has beverage tables and trees in the corner of the screens. The player animations will host a 3D like quality without slowing of the game. The extreme 3D animations will not be added to the software which was found in previous versions of Noble Poker.

Live support with a twist was launched with Poker Ocean. The support team is trained to immediately queue in when the player first registers to help the users find everything they need.

PokerOcean is part of the Playtech gaming software and is part of the iPoker Network. Progressive poker Jackpots continue to be a popular aspect to these poker rooms and the tradition will continue on with PokerOcean. (www.pokersocean.com)

CompatiblePoker.com has picked up PokerOcean as their featured Windows based poker room because of uniqueness and software quality. «The unique progressive Sit and Go tournaments and software graphics lead us to proudly add PokerOcean to our site,» said one of the owners of www.CompatiblePoker.com.

PokerLoco.com: Continued Growth for PokerLoco

(PRWEB) June 12, 2006 — PokerLoco continues to grow on the Nordic market and Sweden has quickly become its largest market. The Norwegian market has also experienced an increase and is PokerLoco’s fourth largest market after the USA and Spain. The fifth largest market, when it comes to revenues, is Canada.

– It is very encouraging to see figures like this, in spite of the fact that our marketing activities for PokerLoco have been rather limited. Even though it is an increase from low levels, the future looks promising. The market is far from saturated, states Stefan Mahlstein.

PokerLoco started its business in January 2006 and has already generated more than 20 000 registered players from all over the world. Furthermore, the revenues have increased by 184% in May compared to April.

– We have noticed an increasing interest for PokerLoco during the entire year. PokerLoco’s clear focus on creating a secure and entertaining private alternative with generous bonuses to the players has given a very good result, Stefan Mahlstein continues.

PokerLoco Nordic S.A. offers online poker via the site http://www.PokerLoco.com. PokerLoco is a secure and entertaining alternative for anyone interested in playing online poker. PokerLoco Nordic S.A. is a subsidiary to the Swedish and British owned company Homerun Gaming Ventures Ltd.

PartyGaming Executive Added as World Poker Congress Keynoter

The merging of online and live poker rooms continues at the World Poker Congress with the addition of Vikrant Bhargava, the group marketing director for PartyGaming, the market leader in online gambling, as a keynote speaker. Bhargava joins World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack and World Poker Tour President Steve Lipscomb as one of the featured presenters at the World Poker Congress, scheduled for June 27 & 28 in Stockholm.

“Vikrant Bhargava is a major reason behind the success of PartyGaming,” says Sue Schneider, President of the River City Group, one of the organizers of the World Poker Congress. “The company’s flagship, PartyPoker.com, introduced many of today’s online and live players to the enjoyment of Internet poker. Vikrant’s innovative marketing campaigns and customer service initiatives have become an industry standard.”

Bhargava’s experience prior to joining PartyGaming included positions as a credit officer at the Bank of America, where he was responsible for managing credit exposure and revenue for a portfolio of corporate clients, and a business analyst at British Gas in the business development division. Bhargava has a degree in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata and graduated with a BA in technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.

The World Poker Congress is the first conference to fully explore the synergies between the live and online games. In addition to the keynote addresses, the conference will feature two tracks dedicated to the different forms of the game, as well as plenary and general sessions featuring topics that appeal to each audience. Attendees will join colleagues to discuss issues such as marketing your poker room, player development, legislation and economics in Europe, staging tournaments, building a player base, business strategies for a quickly maturing industry, fraud and security, mergers and acquisitions, and much more.

“The World Poker Congress has quickly become the premier conference for the business of poker globally,” says Paul Dworin, publisher of Global Gaming Business and PokerBIZ magazines, the other producer of WPC. “The addition of Vikrant Bhargava as a keynote speaker demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge information from the most prestigious speakers.”

New York City’s Jose Gomez Wins $750 Buy-In Event & $129,386 at Borgata Winter Poker Open

The sounds of poker continued to fill the Event Center at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa on Friday. Over 620 players took to the felt like fishes to water for the start of the $1,000 buy-in No Limit Event. The second day of play in the $750 buy-in event resumed in the afternoon, and what began with 619 players was down to its final ten players. In the end, Jose Gomez of New York, NY, emerged as the champion taking home $129,386 and his first Main Event Championship at the Borgata Winter Open.

The Final Table began with “tight” play and the players seemed ready for a long night, but as soon as one player fell, five followed. Gomez, a professional poker player, was all smiles and high-fives as he edged out Leonard Cortellino of Lewiston, ME, who took home $71,262 for second place. Atlantic City’s own Ronnie Kevin finished in third place taking home $37,262. As Gomez walked with family and several friends to Bobby Flay Steak for a celebratory dinner he said, “I felt confident starting the day (in 6th place at start of the day), and just happy I was able to win.”

Cortellino, who started the day in third place with 356,000 in chips, was able to hold onto his chips with his aggressive play. The third place finisher, Ronnie Kevin — one of the short stacks earlier in the day — was able to hold onto third. “I did not get any cards for a while, but I did okay at the final table and was able to take third,” remarked Kevin.

The action continues to heat up at the Borgata Winter Open with the $260+$40 Ladies No Limit Event on Sunday at 11:00 AM — one of the most popular events of the tournament for fans, who have the chance to watch the world’s elite female poker players. Jessica Desantis of Garden City, NY, the winner of the Ladies Event at the 2006 Borgata Poker Open commented, “The ladies event at Borgata will have a strong field and I look forward to playing on Sunday.”

Maine Man Wins Over $200,000 at 2007 Borgata Winter Poker Open

Elite poker play was on display at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa this weekend as the 2007 Borgata Winter Poker Open continued. Chatter and laughter filled the air as the cards hit the table for the start of the Ladies Only Tournament on Sunday. The mood was more subdued Saturday as the 18 remaining players took their seats to resume play in the $1,500 buy-in event. The field encompassed several elite pros as well as past winners of the Borgata Poker Open. Leonard Cortellino of Lewiston, ME, survived the tough field and took home $200,860 in first place prize money.

Sunday’s Final Table featured superb, deliberate play. The players battled back and forth as if it was a chess match. Jeremy Shor, the winner of the $1,500 event at the 2006 Borgata Poker Open overcame a short stack to finish fourth with $47,775. Frank Lupo took home $54,600 for third place. Cortellino was left heads up with one of the top players in the world, James Van Alstyne, who earned $105,788 for his second place finish. Van Alstyne’s experience and pro status could not push him past Cortellino. Van Alstyne was drained after battling heads up noting: “It is disappointing not to win, but this was a great tournament with great atmosphere and I still won ($105,788).”

Cortellino followed in the footsteps of Louis Esposito, the winner of Saturday’s $1,000 buy-in event, starting the second day of competition as the short stack. Cortellino commented, “I think I had less pressure at the start of the day since I was at the bottom of the chip count. I kept grinding away and my stack grew.”

Saturday action featured the Event #3 Final Table, the $1000 buy-in tournament at Borgata Winter Open. Louis Esposito of Glen Dale, NY, won the tournament and the $174,466 in first place prize money. Jonathan Chehanske of Brigantine, NJ, finished in second place with $96,091 in prize money. Chehanske honed his poker skills in Borgata’s new 85-table Poker Room. “I’ve played some of my best poker today, but I’m still happy with second place money.” Akio Ishige, who made a final table during the $500 buy-in event, finished in fifth place with $37,560 in prize money.

The weekend’s poker action also featured the $1,000 buy-in Big Three Super Satellite. Five players won a $10,000 WPT Voucher, a $5,200 Event #9 Voucher, a $2,650 Event #7 Voucher, and $2,150 in cash. The winner was Fritz Stoner, the past winner of the $750 buy-in event at the 2006 Borgata Poker Open. Matt Stout, who made two final tables during the 2006 Poker Open, finished in third in the Big Three.

Celebrity players such as Steve Danneman began arriving in larger numbers over the weekend. Many will be playing in Monday’s $2,500 and Wednesday’s $5,000 buy-in No Limit events. “Momma” Mizrachi, the mother of Card Player’s 2006 Player of the Year, Michael Mizrachi, and a celebrity in her own right, competed in Sunday’s Ladies event.
