Managing your bankroll entails a lot of small decisions that should work together and requires good discipline over and over again. Part of it is knowing when to stand up and call it a night since your are losing money, emotionally tired, and starting to doubt your decisions.

Mastering your poker bankroll may also mean that you will get away from it for the mean time not only because you have won some money but you are quite hungry and you know that when the tummy is complaining, you have the tendency to make bad decisions. So first things first to make sure you maintain the good game.

Managing your bankroll is not being over confident even when you have the deepest stack on the table. It is keeping the same habits that you want the other players to see even when you are so certain that you will be the last man standing.

Bankroll management is all about setting your limits, knowing how much risk to take, and knowing when to stop. You should know if the stakes are too high for the comfort of your bank account. It is very easy to say things but gambling is somewhere where most people fail to keep their word. There is that natural tendency to go for the win even when you know you cannot reverse the misfortunes of the day.

Managing your bankroll is pretty simple: When you are not having fun playing poker, QUIT. If you are depressed and losing, QUIT. Do not let it get to the point that you are so numb with losing that you do not care much if you lose more.

Remember the game has no end. Poker will be there on the tables even when you have to stand now. Poker will be there waiting for you tomorrow. Play only when you are in the best shape to make the most sound, money-winning decisions.

All players use the tool of bluffing to earn money. Flight is a difficult skill to master in poker and folding is one of the most common acts on the poker table.

Playing bluff or resorting to being a fraud is another gimmick adapted by players to win the pot. By the act of bluffing you are either manipulating or deceiving the other players. Excellent poker players have a cutting edge over the other players on the table by resorting to this pattern of playing. Playing bluffs and semi-bluffs is an art which is difficult to master as most of the players get caught in doing so.

Playing bluff in poker is not a taboo. It is one of the mannerisms adopted by the players to dupe the opponents. You should avoid winning pots only if you have premium cards. Sometimes you should severely punish the other players on the table by either bluffing or semi-bluffing and you should win the pot and laugh your way to the bank.

If you want to watch excitement on a poker table you should play bluff. This would alter the path of the game and would challenge the opponents to gauge your game as well.

One of the safest and the best time to bluff is when others are playing a serious game. You can bluff to break the monotony of your playing style. If the playing style is too predictable and you only play when you have good hand. Playing bluff would add excitement on the poker table and all the opponents would be in frenzy thinking about your motive and the cards you have.

Many poker players bluff at the wrong time and at the wrong juncture. This leads to opponents deciphering the bluffs and the player is then in an embarrassing situation. Big pots attract most players to play bluff. The general tendency of players is that they resort to bluffing after the flop. That sets the pace of the game and many players fold their cards. The ulterior motive of the bluff is to win the pot by eliminating the players from the poker table, either by betting big, or by betting small indicating a value bet (even if it’s a thin value bet).

You should avoid being a predictable player and one of the best ways to shun that image is by bluffing. The best time to bluff is when he opponents are least expecting it. Bluffing would pay off only if you are able to trick your opponents and win the pot.

To understand the Texas Hold’em Poker game, you need to know the Lingo.

The main things that you will come across include:

Ante is the money you put into the pot before any player cards are dealt.

Bankroll is the total amount of money you have to play with.

Bluffing is making everyone think you have a better hand than you actually do.

These few terms are the basic lingo and are good enough to enable you make a start on the way to become an experienced player. The basics of poker are as above. If you learn them you will have a good idea of the game.

To get a firm grip on the rules for Texas Holdem Poker, it is better you become familiar with some of the terms used.

There are three main types of the game, and depending on the place, there may be slight changes in the rules.

Fixed Limit Texas Holdem is a game where the betting is fixed within a certain range. For example, the betting is limited through ten to twenty dollars range. That means that the bets are limited to ten dollars in the pre-flop and flop and to twenty dollars in the turn and river.

Pot Limit Texas Holdem also has a form of limited betting; however it is not fixed before the game. The limit is according to the amount currently in the pot. As the pot increases, the betting limit increases.

No Limit Texas Holdem: Here the betting is as per the willingness of the player. There are no fixed betting limits in this game. Mostly experienced players with high bankrolls play this game.

Terminology: Some of the terminology in the game include flop, pre-flop, river, turn, dealer button, all in, raise, fold, check, call, blind bet etc.

Blind bet: This is the bet made by players before the cards are put. Normally this is done by the first two players on the left of the dealer.

Call: A player matches the bet of another player. Make sure not to make silly donkey calls.

Check: When a player checks he does not want to place a bet. A check can only take place only if there are no other bets in the round. Even though the player chooses not to bet, he can still stay in the game.

Fold: The player quits the current game but will play in the next.

Raise: To raise simply means you’re betting more than the last player.

All In: The player is betting everything he has on hand.

Dealer Button: The dealer button decides who the current dealer is and who has to place the blind bets. After each round it is passed in a clockwise direction to the next player

Pre-Flop: This is the first round of Texas Holdem Poker. The dealer gives each player two cards known as pocket cards.

Flop: This is the second round of Texas Holdem Poker. The first three communal cards are put face up on the table. These communal cards care used by the players to create the best five card hands.

Turn: This is the third round of Texas Holdem Poker. A fourth communal card is placed face up on the poker table.

River: This is the last round of Texas Holdem Poker. A fifth communal card is placed face up on the poker table.

With this you get a basic knowledge of the game.

This has nothing to do with poker, and that’s why this is my first post. I’m sick and tired of these so-called name pros doing things other than gambling with cash and cards. Be a poker player for a change, guys? Yes, there’s marketing money to be made. Yes, there’s endorsements. But when Todd Brunson starts selling freaking diapers is when I start playing professional backgammon.

Screw you guys, I’m going home!
